Discipleship & Small Groups

Small GroupsMany opportunities to further one’s spiritual growth through classes, small groups and fellowship are provided by the Discipleship and Small Groups team at Fairmont. Adult Education classes offered Sunday mornings at 9:30 am encompass bible study and application to one’s life, biblical ethics in contemporary society, church history, scripture and music. Classes are typically taught by pastors and lay leaders of Fairmont along with outside professionals. Bible study of a specific book of the bible takes place Wednesday evenings at the church. Revelation and Ecclesiastes were studied this year.

A Lenten Book study is offered every year with small groups meeting in member’s homes. "Here and Now" by Henri Nouwen is this year’s Lenten study book. Fellowship opportunities include Dayton Dragons games, canoe trips, small groups that meet in member’s homes for a monthly meal as well as numerous luncheons and coffee fellowship times following worship. A pot-luck family meal, known as GIFT – Generations in Faith Together, occurs Wednesday evenings. Along with table fellowship, persons share their “glads and sads” and pray together. Our Senior Citizens, known as “Fairmonters,” gather monthly on a Friday night for a meal and entertainment at the church. A Women’s Retreat encouraging spiritual and physical well-being, fellowship and fun is held bi-yearly at a local state park. Women of all ages, their female friends and relatives are encouraged to attend. Workshops, worship and gatherings of the large group make for a relaxing and reenergizing time together.
